The cumulative GPA formula

New GPA = (current GPA × current credits + semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ total credits.

Example: a 3.4 GPA over 12 credits plus a 3.9 semester over 3 credits gives (40.8 + 11.7) ÷ 15 = 3.50.

To calculate everything from your individual grades instead, use the high school GPA calculator.

Frequently asked questions

+What is a cumulative GPA?

Your cumulative GPA is the average of all your grades across every semester, weighted by credits. It's the GPA on your transcript.

+Why didn't my GPA change much after a great semester?

The more credits you already have, the less one semester moves the average. Early semesters have the biggest effect.

+Should I enter weighted or unweighted GPA?

Either — just use the same kind for both your current GPA and your semester GPA.
