Advanced Placement

AP GPA Calculator

New classes default to AP (+1.0). Mix in your regular and Honors classes to see your full weighted GPA.

How AP classes are weighted

Advanced Placement classes are college-level, so most high schools add a full point: A = 5.0, B = 4.0, C = 3.0. An F stays at 0.

Some schools cap how many AP classes get the bonus, or only weight them in junior and senior year. If your GPA on the report card looks different, check your school's handbook.

Frequently asked questions

+How much does an AP class add to GPA?

Most schools add 1.0 point, so an A in an AP class is worth 5.0 instead of 4.0. A B becomes 4.0.

+Does the AP exam score affect my GPA?

No. Your GPA uses your class grade. The AP exam score (1–5) is reported separately and can earn college credit.

+Is a B in AP better than an A in a regular class?

On a weighted scale they're equal (4.0 each). Colleges generally like to see the harder class, but a pattern of low grades in AP classes can hurt.
